150 Billion Dollar Increase in War Funding

The above photo is from Yahoo News. Iraqi volunteers carry an unidentified body wrapped in a white sheet in the holy city of Najaf.

The US Senate has recently approved an increase in war funding by 150 billion dollars. Hasn’t this world seen enough bloodshed? Over and over again democratic leaders state that they want the war to end, and that they are urging President George Bush to set a timeline for withdrawl of american troops. However, when the latest increase of $150B was approved, it was passed by a vote of 92-3. THAT my friends is not urging the president to withdrawl. That’s telling him to continue his Crusade of whatever the hell he feels like.

ONE HUNDRED FIFTY BILLION DOLLARS!!!

I thought we were doing such a great job in the middle east. What does the US military need another $150B for? So we can secure the country…again?

A while back in Bush’s January 31, 2006 State of the Union Address, he stated:

“Keeping America competitive begins with keeping our economy growing. And our economy grows when Americans have more of their own money to spend, save, and invest. In the last five years, the tax relief you passed has left $880 billion in the hands of American workers, investors, small businesses, and families — and they have used it to help produce more than four years of uninterrupted economic growth.

(Applause.)

Yet the tax relief is set to expire in the next few years. If we do nothing, American families will face a massive tax increase they do not expect and will not welcome. “

Just how much has this war cost the American people so far? Oh right-$450B
and 4,105 coalition deaths, and easily totaling over 28,000 wounded.

That’s over half the savings in tax. Once this war is finally all said in done several economists are saying that this war could cost us between one to two trillion dollars or more.

As Representative Rahm Emanuel of Illinois, the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus put it;

“He wants an open-ended commitment with an open wallet by the American people”

But why is that? To free the starving people of the Middle East by building 10.1 million in missile defense? The united States spends a significant amount more money on the military than any other country in the world. It seems that the US wants to be the “world police,” even though the democrats haven’t done much…

I like to sum this intense military government expenditure with my fellow college room mate, Zach Bailey’s rationalization of the American people’s mind set:

“God has a guiding hand over the world, though most people dont feel so secure about it… He wants us to build the Giant Fucking Space Lazer anyway, because this is America. Both sides win”
